Join Oonagh Gay to learn more about Sylvia Pankhurst and the East London Federation of Suffragettes, who campaigned in Bow for working women to gain the vote from 1912. Join an hour long walk, starting at Stroudley Walk, where Sylvia started her direct action campaign, and was locked up in Bow Road Police Station. On the way, we will learn about Councillor Minnie Lansbury and the Poplar rates protest, the heritage of Kingsley Hall and the Children’s House, and Sylvia’s attempts to introduce equal pay for women and support anti-colonial struggles. This walk is part of the Women East initiative.
