Weaving around History in Spitalfields

  • Corner of Brushfield Street and Bishopsgate London EC2M 4AA (map)

On this walk we’re diving back into 2,000 years of history in an area of London which has many stories to tell. These include, stories of an amazing cemetery from the Roman period discovered in the area and, moving forward to the Middle Ages, the story behind a medieval hospital. We’ll see some of the iconic churches in the area, some famous markets and one of the most intriguing houses in the whole of London -- which has been frozen in time for hundreds of years!  Over the centuries, Spitalfields has attracted many peoples escaping from persecution, including the Huguenots, Chinese, Jews and Bangladeshis to name but a few: we will hear their stories too.
