Charles Booth’s famous ‘Poverty Survey’ and mapping actually began in Spitalfields - he headquartered himself at Toynbee Hall. In this 75-minute virtual walk via Zoom, Sean will use late 19th century maps and notes to plot a course round Spitalfields and next-door Whitechapel whilst telling about a special environment created by centuries of immigration. This online event is offered in collaboration with Spitalfields Music which has been putting music at the heart of East London for over 40 years and bringing diverse communities together.
