A journey through late Victorian Deptford using the maps and notes of Charles Booth as he created his famous 'Poverty Maps'. This Guided Walk features excerpts from the notes and follows the route Booth took to establish the living conditions of the inhabitants of one of London's toughest late Victorian neighbourhoods. We hear from contemporary and other writers and commentators to complete a picture of Deptford's rich history as well as its modern 'gentrification'. Two-thirds of the way through this walk, we take a brief rest at one of the area's best pubs.
