GUIDED WALK: Brick Lane and Bangla Town, where the world comes to the East End

  • Whitechapel Art Gallery, 77-82 Whitechapel High Street London E1 7QX (map)

Brick Lane is a arguably one of the most famous streets in the Capital. On this Guided Walk, we will discover what makes it so special, but also so controversial. Over the centuries, Brick Lane has attracted many people escaping from persecution and poverty, including the Huguenots, Chinese, Jews and Bangladeshis. We will hear their stories and their impact on the area through the streets where they lived, worked and prayed. A story of breweries, weaving and also a good curry! But the future of the area has now become a battlefield, where locals are making a stand against gentrification and the loss of their own history. Your guide Daniella is a born and bred East ender, who will share her encyclopaedic knowledge and wonderful stories.
